No Church in the Wild

An intimate portrait of family, community, and life on the trail and Black rodeo culture, through the lens of the Prairie View Trail Rider Association, one of America's oldest Black trail-riding communities. Documented from 2023 and ongoing.

Black cowboys have largely been excluded from recognition for their contributions to present-day cowboy culture and to conversations about the history of American cowboys. Today, being a Black cowboy is an act of resistance to the ongoing erasure and exclusion from the history and contributions to the cowboy culture.
